Dr Maimuna Mushabe

Paediatric Consultant/Clinical Director for Children’s Services, Mid and South Essex Hosptials

Maimuna was born and raised in Uganda. With an innovative and compassionate personality, she began to develop interests in medicine leading her to complete her undergraduate training at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda.  Keen to develop her skills further, she moved to London where she completed her postgraduate training in Wessex and London Hospitals gaining her CCT in Paediatrics 2015.

As a General Paediatrician with special interests in Children and Young Peoples Epilepsy and Clinical Leadership, Maimuna joined the Consultant team at Basildon University Hospital in 2015. After years of successful clinical leadership, in 2021 she was appointed as the Group Clinical Director for Children’s Services for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSENHSFT).  A recently merged organisation, MSENHSFT consists of three large acute general district hospitals serving a population of 1.2 million people.

Leading a Multi-Disciplinary Team of colleagues, Maimuna is responsible for the clinical reconfiguration for Paediatric and Neonatal services across the Trust through a structured Paediatric Improvement Plan. She has recently developed a hub and spoke model for Paediatric Sickle Cell Service to provide care closer to home and is working towards implementing a Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Team (SHT). Using her passion for leadership and empowering others, her focus is to ensure equitable access to first class services is available to all.

Maimuna is married and has three beautiful girls. When she is not working, Maimuna enjoys reading, listening to music, long walks and socialising with friends.
